    Existing front line supervisors and other supervisors who have attended module 1 - Stepping up to become a Supervisor

    Overview

    Leading in the Process Industries is a comprehensive course of 7 modules designed to meet the requirements of new supervisors and existing supervisors who would like to refresh their competencies.

    Participants will be asked to complete an online template describing the types of coaching and mentoring situations they may encounter in their role as a Supervisor in their business or which they feel they need to work on. This will be used by tutors to shape activity during the one day module.

    Pre Course Activity - One hour pre-reading. Participants will be asked to bring with them an example of a Coaching or Mentoring need within their team for discussion.

    Module 1 - Stepping up to become a Supervisor

    Module 2 - Difficult Discussions

    Module 3 - Coaching & Mentoring

    Module 4 - Dealing with Change

    Module 5 - Getting the most out of your Team

    Module 6 - Human Resource Essentials

    Module 7 - Introduction to Project Management


    Programme Content and Key Areas

    The course explains how to be an effective coach and the difference between coaching and mentoring including:

    • Understanding the role of the coach
    • Understanding the role of a mentor
    • Using an existing model to coach people
    • Mentoring your team members such as Apprentices

    Learning Outcomes

     On completion of this module, participants will be able to:
    • Understand how to decide what a specific situation requires - Coaching, Mentoring or Counselling
    • Use simple tools to be an effective coach/mentor
    • Describe the key differences between coaching and mentoring
    • Use good listening and questioning skills to understand a team member’s needs/aspirations
    • Develop SMART plans to help individuals reach their goals/aspirations
    • Appreciate the power of review in keeping development plans alive
