    This Multi Skilling Additional Training is delivered on site at South West Durham Training Ltd with workshop practical delivery which includes machining vice programme, fluid power (pneumatics) and hydraulics, fabrication and welding, PLCs and robotics, 17th Edition, Machining (turning, milling), electrical circuits and devices.

    This Course is Aimed at

    Level 2/3 Apprentice.

    Overview

    9 week Machining Vice Programme:

    Preparing and Using Milling Machines:

    • Work safely at all times, complying with health and safety legislation, regulations and other relevant guidelines
    • Plan the machining activities before starting
    • Obtain and prepare the appropriate materials, tools and equipment
    • Mount and set the required work holding devices, work piece and cutting tools
    • Use the machine tool controls safely and correctly in line with operational procedures
    • Produce machined components which combine different operations
    • Measure and check all dimensional and geometrical aspects of the component are to the specification
    • Deal promptly and effectively with problems and seek help and guidance from the relevant people when needed
    • Shut down the equipment to a safe condition on completion of the machining activities.

     Preparing and Using Lathes for turning operations:

    • Work safely at all times, complying with health and safety legislation, regulations and other relevant guidelines
    • Plan the machining activities before starting
    • Obtain and prepare the appropriate materials, tools and equipment
    • Mount and set the required work holding devices, work piece and cutting tools
    • Set and adjust the machine tool speeds and feeds to achieve the component specification
    • Use the machine tool controls safely and correctly in line with operational procedures
    • Produce machined components which combine different operations
    • Measure and check all dimensional and geometrical aspects of the component are to the specification
    • Deal promptly and effectively with problems and seek help and guidance from the relevant people when needed
    • Shut down the equipment to a safe condition on completion of the machining activities.

    3 week fab & weld: 

    Apprentices will gain knowledge and skills in MIG, TIG and Fabrication over 3 week training at SWDT from

    • Work safely at all times, complying with health and safety legislation, regulations and other relevant guidelines
    • Plan the welding activities before starting
    • Obtain and prepare the appropriate welding equipment and welding consumables
    • Prepare and support the joint using the appropriate methods
    • Tack weld the joint at appropriate intervals and check the joint for accuracy before final welding
    • Weld the joint to the required quality, dimensions and profile specified
    • Use appropriate methods and equipment to check the quality and all dimensional and geometrical aspects of the weld are to the specification
    • Deal promptly and effectively with problems and seek help and guidance from the relevant people when needed
    • Shut down and make safe the welding equipment on completion of the welding activities
    • activities.

    2 week Fluid Power (Pneumatics) & Hydraulics: 

    Fluid Power

    • Safe assembly of basic fluid power system components
    • Prepare the appropriate components, assembly tools and basic  test equipment
    • Use appropriate methods and techniques to assemble the components in their correct positions.
    • Secure the components using the specified connectors and securing devices
    • Check the completed assembly to ensure that all operations have been completed
    • Carry out basic tests on the assembled system.

     PLC & Robotics

    • Plan the programmable controller wiring and testing activity
    • Position and secure the programmable controller components and peripheral devices safely and correctly
    • Connect and terminate the cables to the appropriate connections on the components
    • Develop programmable controller programs using the appropriate techniques and programming language
    • Use appropriate test methods and equipment to check and prove the programme integrity
