    Welcome to The BeInspired Project

This project aims to increase participation in the labour market and improve social inclusion and mobility.
It is part-funded by the European Social Fund.

The BeInspired project has developed information, advice and guidance material that is particularly focused on encouraging greater take-up of Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths (STEM) subjects. As part of the project, Cogent Skills has developed a set of resources with a particular focus on Science.

    Teacher Resources:

The resources are linked to the science curriculum and will enable teachers to deliver real-world context activities to their classes. The materials will suit pupils between the ages of 11 and 16 and include take-home key messages to ensure that parents are also engaged.

The following set of lessons are linked to the science curriculum and have a Cheshire and Warrington regional focus. The lessons are designed to be flexible in terms of delivery and can be used as single lessons or as a set that will provide students with a journey exploring careers in science.

Each lesson contains all the accompanying materials that can be downloaded and printed, including a lesson plan outlining:

    • lesson duration
    • aims for the students
    • skills developed
    • resources required
    • preparation needed

This 45 – 60 minute activity aims to inspire pupils about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Establish what they already know about STEM, careers within STEM and challenge any myths or stereotypes they may have of the industries and the people working in them.

This 30 - 45 minute activity will allow pupils to learn about people working in STEM within Cheshire and Warrington. By working through the quiz the pupils will learn about local Science Ambassadors; their routes into science, a day in the life of, their qualifications and skills, their careers progression, their proudest achievements and other advice.

This 45 – 60 minute activity will give the pupils an overview of STEM industry careers in Cheshire and Warrington and look at the pathways into some of those careers using the Cogent Skills Careers Navigator.

This 90 minute activity will see pupils work in teams on a real STEM challenge (this has been developed in partnership with GSK who have provided all of the STEM content). The challenge is for the teams to develop a new toothpaste for the teenage market.

This 30 - 45 minute activity provides pupils with hints and tips on how they can improve their chances of entering the STEM workplace in the competitive job market.

The Teacher Resources include 4 videos of Science Ambassadors working in the industry in Cheshire and Warrington, produced by Cogent Skills. The videos have similar content to the written case studies and include the advice that the Ambassadors would give to their younger selves. There are an additional 2 videos from Siemens produced by Cheshire East as part of the BeInspired project which give information on the benefits of Apprenticeships to businesses and to individuals.
