  • Scientific Manufacture (QCF) Level 3 NVQ Diploma

    The Scientific Manufacture diploma is the Gold Standard level 3 qualification for bio-manufacturing with 2 pathways: bio-technology includes preparation, production, harvesting & purifying of bio materials; filling/finishing includes automated and manual filling. Also covered is safety, aseptic working and a range of ancillary support services.

    This Course is Aimed at

    This qualification will suit you if you are working in bio-manufacturing and have relevant knowledge and skills. You may be completing an apprenticeship or looking to move to a supervisor or management position.

    Overview

    This qualification provides the Gold Standard level 3 skills, competence and knowledge requirement for individuals working in the bio-manufacturing sector. It has 2 pathways: biotechnology operations requiring 46 credits and filling/finishing operations requiring 48 credits to achieve from a range of mandatory and optional units.

    Programme Content and Key Areas

    Core Mandatory Units:

    • Maintaining health and safety
    • Maintaining effective and efficient working relationships
    • Monitoring and following aseptic procedures


    Core Optional:

    • Analysing and inputting bio-manufacturing data
    • Providing team leadership
    • Encouraging problem solving and innovation
    • Managing project budgets
    • Following aseptic procedures
    • Monitoring the routine maintenance, cleaning, disinfecting and calibration of bio-manufacturing equipment


    Optional - Biotechnology Processing Pathway:

    • Monitoring the preparation of culture media and solutions
    • Monitoring the production of biomaterial using bioreactors
    • Monitoring the harvesting of biomaterial into sterile containers from a bioreactor
    • Monitoring the separation of harvested biomaterial using continuous flow centrifugation
    • Monitoring the obtaining of biomaterial using lysis of cells
    • Monitoring the separation of harvested biomaterial using normal filtration
    • Monitoring the concentration and diafiltration of harvested biomaterial using tangential flow filtration
    • Monitoring the purification of harvested biomaterial using chromatography
    • Making presentations


    Optional - Filling/Finishing Processing pathway:

    • Monitoring preparation of the bio-manufacturing area and filling equipment
    • Monitoring the transfer of materials
    • Monitoring the measuring, weighing and preparation of compounds and solutions
    • Monitoring the filling of containers with processed biomaterials using automated machinery
    • Monitoring the packing of filled biomaterial containers by manual methods

    Learning Outcomes

    This qualification confirms occupational competence in bio-manufacturing operations at Level 3 and learners have the opportunity to progress to team leader or management roles and associated qualifications at higher levels.
